MOSCOW: Following the recent bombing of a Russian military general, Dmitri Medvedev, deputy head of Russia’s National Security Council, vowed that his government would take revenge. He said that although Russia has just begun the investigation, our enemies have quickly spread the news that they are indeed behind the assassination of the military general.
Medvedev said that investigators must find the perpetrators on Russian soil, meaning they must not be allowed to leave Russian territory. As for the mastermind behind this murder, who is hiding in Kiev, Ukraine, we must find a way to track them down and destroy them at any cost.
General Igor Kirillov, commander of the special forces for nuclear, biological and chemical warfare, was killed by a bomb while traveling with one of his aides. The two were walking out of a building about 7 kilometers from the Kremlin. Ukrainian intelligence sources claim that the Ukrainian SBU was behind the assassination.
The same source said that an unidentified person drove a motorbike and left it at the entrance of the building. The motorbike was packed with explosives, waiting for the opportunity for the Russian general to go near it and press the button to explode. Ukraine has named General Kirillov, who was indicted by Ukrainian prosecutors yesterday for the illegal use of banned nerve agents on the Ukrainian battlefield.
A video clip shared on social media shows General Kirillov and his aides walking out of a building toward a car. A short time later, a bomb exploded with a loud explosion. Kirillov, 54, was the highest-ranking Russian military commander to be killed by Ukraine on Russian soil. Following this incident, Russian authorities are expected to tighten security even further.
It is not yet known how and to what extent Russia will retaliate against Ukraine after Medvedev laid out a plan to eliminate the Ukrainian military commander and top Ukrainian leaders. In October, Britain imposed economic sanctions on General Kirillov for using chemical weapons to suppress the uprising and for using toxic substances to cause asphyxiation on the battlefield.
Although Russia denies it, Ukraine claims that Russia has used these substances on the Ukrainian battlefield. Therefore, the Ukrainian army has difficulty controlling its morale in fighting against the Russian army. They only thought about retreating from the battlefield because General Kirillov ordered the use of disorienting gas. So, to counterattack, Ukraine does not deal with Russian soldiers on the battlefield, but with the commander who is directly in charge.
